Over the past few years, there has been a new growing interest in abortion politics in the media, in academia, and in international organizations. Since the overturn of Roe versus Wade, abortion became a topic again. If we observe recent attack, there has also been recent feminist victory, notably in Latin America (Colombia, Argentina, etc.). In Switzerland, as most countries, abortion is still in the penal code.
This workshop seeks to stimulate international and interdisciplinary exchanges and new directions in research on abortion and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) more broadly. This workshop aims to bring into conversation feminist, transnational and intersectional perspectives. By bringing together scholars and practitioners from different disciplines (history, anthropology, sociology, gender studies, geography, public health etc.).
The topic this workshop will cover are diverse : past and present feminist movements for abortion care, criminalisation of abortion, transnational abortion travels, gestational age timing politics, and self-managed abortion.
