Enantioselective optical forces in single chiral particles

Academic or specialist Seminar

We put forward an enantioselective method for single, isolated chiral nanoparticles using optical tweezers. We demonstrate that the optical trapping force in a typical optical tweezing setup is sensitive to the chirality of core–shell nanoparticles, allowing for efficient enantioselection. This method is robust against variations of size and material parameters, demonstrating its utility in chiral plasmonics, where enantioselection of single chiral nanoparticles, each one with its unique handedness and optical properties, is important. Our
method could be employed to unveil the optical chiral response arising from disorder in individual plasmonic raspberries, synthesised by close-packing metallic nanospheres around a dielectric core. We also introduce novel strategies to achieve enantioselective optical forces
using structured light and doping chiral particles with gain media.
