Course Content:

In the course “Sleep & Cognition,” students will acquire profound knowledge in sleep research. They will learn about the basic principles and neural mechanisms of sleep, including sleep regulation and disturbances. The course covers a wide range of topics, from historical studies of memory to the role of sleep in memory consolidation, and how sleep oscillations contribute to memory reactivation. Additionally, students will explore the relationship between cognitive development and sleep, clinical aspects of sleep, and the influence of cognition on sleep. The course will also delve into the functions of sleep, focusing on the glymphatic system and its impact on cognition, and the connection between the gut, brain, and sleep in decision-making processes.

Course Logistics:

This weekly course is validated by a multiple-choice exam in the January/February session. Validation of the course is mandatory for starting a master thesis in the option “cognitive neuroscience”. Please note that this course will only take place every second year.

• Format: Hybrid (inperson + online via MS TEAMS).
