    Description

    This course is dedicated to the study of international and European human rights law. The first part of the course covers cross-cutting issues such as the sources, the right-holders, the duty-bearers, the scope and content of the duties, the restrictions and derogations to human rights in both universal and European instruments (EU and Council of Europe), whereas the second part of the course covers institutional and procedural issues raised by the monitoring and implementation of those rights both universally and on the European plane (EU and Council of Europe).

    Teaching style is socratic, based on compulsory reading by students and a discussion of questions in class.

    No passive livestreaming.

    The examination is a 2-hour written examination. Students are asked to address two questions of the kind discussed in class.

    Students may use their copy of the Besson/Ziegler, Recueil de droit international public, dernière édition.This copy may be annotated in conformity with the Dean's Office 2016 Rules on Annotation.
