    Description

    Health is much more than the absence of disease. In Health Psychology we are interested in biopsychosocial factors which are relevant for the improvement and maintenance of health. In the first part of the semester, we will focus on stress and discuss different stress definitions. You will learn how physiological and psychosocial factors interact to understand individual health. We will take a special spotlight on the role of social support (from family, romantic partner, and friends) which plays a significant role in coping with stress. In the second part of the semester, we will focus on health behavior. How can we motivate people to engage in healthy behavior such as physical activity, eating healthy, or regular medical checkups? And why is it so hard to stop risky behavior such as smoking or unprotected sex? You will get to know key factors in planning interventions for promoting health.
