The SNSF-funded project “Digital agriculture: Sino-European contrasts, correspondences and collaborations” explores through an anthropological lens how digital technologies are transforming agriculture. Using the example of new Chinese multitasking drones, it examines their use in agriculture in China, Switzerland and Germany to better understand the challenges and opportunities, particularly from the perspective of farmers. The project assesses the social implications of these technologies and aims to contribute to responsible innovation. By using drones as a case study, it also offers insights into broader reconfigurations of global hierarchies of digital technologies and knowledge. It will provide in-depth, actor-centered insights into China’s role in global food security and shed light on the challenges of implementing digital agricultural technologies in a transnational context.
