Target audience

This course is for participants who have no knowledge of French according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Please only register if your level corresponds to the course. Participants of our partner institutions and Unifr employees can contact us to take a placement test if they are unsure of their level. Unifr students are automatically guided to the placement test when registering for a course on MyUnifr.

Content

Target audience

This course is intended for complete beginners in French as a foreign language. No previous knowledge of French is necessary. Priority is given to mobility students.

Course contents and teaching method

Introducing oneself and others, the alphabet, days/months/seasons, asking for and giving information, professions, nationalities, countries, places, family, expressing likes and dislikes, activities, leisure, body.

The course focuses on written and oral skills, as well as grammar and vocabulary. In class, the emphasis is on oral activities.

Workload and evaluation

It is important to note that this is a two-session per week course (4 lessons per week). In addition, this course requires regular homework for the preparation and follow-up of the course (approximately 3 hours per week).

At the end of the semester, a final written test is carried out to evaluate oral and written comprehension, written production, grammar and vocabulary.

To validate the course, students must attend at least 80% of the sessions and pass the final written test.

Please buy the following textbook: Cosmopolite : A1 méthode de français. (2017). Vanves : Hachette français langue étrangère.

Several copies are available at the Librophoros bookshop (bookshop in the MIS10 building, tel. 026 322 46 26). Please always bring the book to class.

Goals

At the end of the semester, you will reach level A1.1 according to the CEFR:

  • You will be able to understand some familiar everyday expressions used in very frequent communication situations and very simple statements aimed at the satisfaction of some concrete needs of social life and to produce some of them.
     
  • You can introduce yourself and answer questions about e.g. your nationality, age, location, education and can ask such questions of others.
     
  • You can participate in ordinary interaction, using simple statements (centred on one or two words), also using your first language or other acquired languages if the speaker speaks slowly and clearly and is cooperative and friendly.
