Abstract
The elusive trifluoroacyl radical can be generated via C−O bond fragmentation of trifluoroacetic anhydride under photoredox conditions and undergoes olefinic C−H bond trifluoroacetylation in a mechanistically unique fashion. The protocol is operationally simple, scalable, and enables the late-stage diversification of complex biorelevant molecules delivering the corresponding a,b-unsaturated trifluoromethyl ketones in a single chemical step.
