Presentation
It's fundamentally challenging to understand complex systems in nature, engineering and society, due to their interconnected structures and complex dynamics. The availability of big data sets and new techniques of AI, data, and network analysis make it possible to enhance our understanding of many phenomena. Only by doing this, we can develop advanced theories and eventually translate the research into cutting-edge techniques with real-world impacts.
We combine our research expertise from Physics, Computer Science, Economics, and a wide range of domains in natural science and engineering, as a concrete step to take interdisciplinarity to a higher level, fusing broad experience and know-how of our local Swiss research teams and outstanding partners in Europe and around the world.
The founders of the center are Yi-Cheng Zhang (University of Fribourg, Department of Physics), Berno Buechel (Director, University of Fribourg, Department of Economics), Philippe Cudré-Mauroux (University of Fribourg, Department of Informatics), and Claudio Tessone (Department of Business Administration - Network Science, University of Zurich). We are open to further teams and researchers from Switzerland and beyond.
