Format of the Workshop
The workshop will consist of two parts with Chatham House rules applying throughout the workshop. In the first part, participants from academia and the public sector will present their planned and ongoing research to gather feedback from colleagues.  We will also host special ‘applied’ sessions to discuss current challenges in the public administration.

  • The labor directorate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) is interested in discussing recent evidence and methods regarding the "Measurement of undeclared work in Switzerland".
  • The Federal Department of Finance (EFD) is interested in exchanging about the academic theory and evidence on the "Optimal fiscal responses during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in Switzerland".

The second part of the workshop consists of panel discussions on current topics in Swiss Public Economics and Policy with input presentations by academics and practitioners.

Panel discussion 1: The interaction between fiscal and monetary policy in Switzerland

We will discuss how fiscal and monetary policy in Switzerland interact, especially during the Covid-19 crisis. What will be their roles in the exit from Covid-19?

with Sabine d’Amelio-Favez (Director, Federal Department of Finance), Dirk Niepelt (University of Bern, Director of the Study Center Gerzensee), and Jan-Egbert Sturm (ETHZ, Director Swiss Economic Institute KOF)

mit Monika Bütler (Economist), Vera Kupper Staub (President of the Oberaufsichtskommission Berufliche Vorsorge, OAK BV) und Veronika Weisser (UBS, Sector Head Retirement and Pensions Solutions)
