Victorian London study trip

In early October, a group of our MA students, accompanied by Professors Straub and Austenfeld, set out to explore London’s Victorian atmosphere as part of the "Victorian London" seminar. Their journey took them to some of the city’s prominent cultural spots, including the Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. They stepped back in time with a visit to the Charles Dickens Museum and ended their tour with a stroll through the captivating Highgate Cemetery. To cap off the experience, they spent their last evening watching Atri Banerjee’s 2024 adaptation of John Osborne’s Look Back in Anger.

A special mention goes to Dr. Alexander Heinz (formerly of King’s College London), who provided a fascinating historical backdrop to both Victorian and modern London, and to Dr. Susan Fox (formerly from the University of Bern) for leading them on a culinary tour through the city’s diverse food scene.
