Thanks to the initiative of the University Council (CDU), the University of Fribourg provides its students a bigger offer of interdisciplinary courses in the area of ethics since autumn 2008.
More informationThe University Council is a permanent commission of the Council of State for university matters. It’s a consultative authority at the disposal of the department of public education, culture and sports (DICS) for all questions the board wishes to submit in connection with its own tasks. The University Council is also a financial authority, charged with the management of the funds it has been entrusted with.
Financed by the University Council (CDU), implemented by the interdisciplinary institute for ethics and human rights (team), the Competence Center for Ethics has the mandate to manage the support requests for the courses in ethics and increase the offers as well as the visibility of ethics at Fribourg University.
More informationApart from the coordination group, the Competence Center for Ethics is composed of the following members :
- President : Eric Davoine, professor of economics, Chair of Human Resources and Organization
- Coordinator : Bernard Schumacher, titular professor, coordinator of the IIEDH, Research center "Aging, ethics and rights"
- Secretariat : Linda Ackermann
The Competence Center for Ethics is overseen by a coordination group.
More informationThis group has the goal to develop concepts relating to the optimization and the development of the Competence Center for Ethics and to formulate propositions (in accordance with the faculties) for the regulatory anchoring of the Competence Center for Ethics in the regulations of the faculties. Furthermore the coordination group has the aim to cultivate contacts with the faculties in all domains inherent to the Competence Center for Ethics as well as to make decisions about requests for funding (while respecting the available resources).
This group is composed of representatives of the University Council (CDU), the rectorate, the faculties, scientific employees and students.
