National Federalism Conference
The idea of an annual National Federalism Conference dates back to the 2002 International Federalism Conference in St. Gallen (Switzerland). At the time, the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK) was preoccupied with what was needed to ensure that dialogue on fundamental federalism issues continued in Switzerland.

The fifth National Conference was held on 26 and 27 October 2017 in Montreux.

The fourth National Conference was held on 27 and 28 November 2014 in Solothurn.

The thirth National Conference was held on 26 and 27 May 2011 in Mendrisio.

Baden 2008
The second National Federalism Conference was held on 27 and 28 March 2008 in Baden. Its theme was: «Does Swiss Federalism need to undergo an efficiency drive?»

Fribourg 2005
The first National Federalism Conference was held on 15 and 16 September 2005 in Fribourg. Organised by the federal administration, the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK) and the canton of Fribourg, together with the Swiss Association of Local Authorities and the Swiss Cities’ Association, the theme of the 2005 conference was cooperative federalism. The published conference proceedings were edited by the Institute of Federalism.
