SwissSed is an informal group of Swiss sedimentologists promoting contacts, exchange of ideas, and information on current developments in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleoecology. Since 1992, SwissSed invites students and researchers to a yearly meeting at Fribourg, "to get used to presenting talks and posters, and to answering questions in a not-too-stressful friendly "family" atmosphere" (Homewood et al. 2018).
The Annual SwissSed Meeting is a one-day meeting usually on a Saturday at the end of February/early March and aims to promote the quality of research, science communication, and active networking between young researchers from Swiss university departments. Since 2010, the meeting is a module of the CUSO doctoral school "Earth Surface Processes and Paleobiosphere", through which PhD students receive financial support for participation.
