Workshop III of the International Permafrost Association (IPA) Action Group on Rock Glacier Inventories and Kinematics (RGIK) took place in Puigcerdà (Catalonia, Spain) on 17 June. It was attended by more than 50 people (40 on-site and 16 online) and was mainly dedicated to the presentation of the RGIK overview, together with round table discussions on RoGI and RGV topics. It also discussed the next steps for the RGIK initiative in terms of objectives and governance, the principles of which are reflected in the Puigcerdà Commitment. This workshop marked the end of the IPA support for the RGIK as an Action Group, after two periods from June 2018 to June 2023. The RGIK is currently transitioning to become a Standing Committee of the IPA, in order to continue its activities and objectives. This transition is expected to be completed by June 2024.
The workshop was sponsored by the International Permafrost Association (IPA) and the Department of Geosciences, University of Fribourg (UniFR).
