MiTAnIm: Migration and Transformation of Culturally Encoded Animal Imagery

The MiTAnlm project started in August 2023 and is funded by the SNSF for 5 years. It is a broad-based and thematically bundled research project focussing on "culturally encoded animal imagery" in the Hebrew Bible, which was translated in translation chains from a Semitic language (Hebrew) into an Indo-European language (Greek, from the 3rd century BCE onwards) and then further into two Semitic languages (ancient Ethiopic and Greek). They were then further translated into two Semitic languages (ancient Ethiopian and Syriac, 4th-7th century BCE) and into various dialects of Coptic (Afro-Asiatic, 4th-13th century).
