Alessandro Spina is a Member of the Legal Service of the European Commission since 2018. Previously, he was a legal and the data protection officer at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from 2009 to 2018.
He is a dual-qualified Italian and English lawyer and appears regularly before the Court of Justice of the EU, in a wide range of litigation (pharmaceuticals, transparency).
Alessandro holds a law degree cum laude from the University of Siena, LLM (M.Jur.) from the University of Oxford and Ph.D. in Law and Economics from the University of Siena. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Administrative Law in the University of Milan Statale in 2011/2012 and a visiting lecturer at the IBL in Fribourg since 2016.
His academic interests are EU law, health and pharmaceutical law, and risk and behavioral regulation. He is a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Risk Regulation.
