Emmanuel Maalouf

Corporate Sustainability Law

Emmanuel Maalouf is an Australian qualified lawyer and civil engineer practicing in the field of sustainability, engineering, and general legal & compliance matters as an inhouse counsel. He currently serves as the Sustainability & Operations Legal Counsel at Société des Produits Nestlé in Vevey, Switzerland. His expertise lies in providing counsel on ESG strategies, compliance with regulatory developments, and handling contractual negotiations and contentious matters for the ESG and Operations teams. He also actively participates in advocacy activities around emerging ESG laws, particularly those relating to circularity and water. Prior to his role at Nestlé, Emmanuel worked as the Corporate Legal Counsel at a waste management company in Sydney, Australia and a litigator at reputed Australian law firms working on Construction, Insurance, Property and Personal Injury laws.

His professional journey is also complemented by research and field experiences. He conducted field research at the International Water Management Institute in South Africa around water management in rural areas. He also spent 3 months at the United Nations in Geneva, where he supported the environmental and human rights mandate. Furthermore, his article "Achieving corporate environmental responsibility through emerging sustainability laws" was recently published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Environmental Law under the supervision of the University of Sydney Law School.

Emmanuel holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the American University of Beirut, Master of Environmental Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Juris Doctor from the University of Sydney, and an L.L.M from the Australian National University. He is currently completing his PhD thesis on Corporate Plastic Responsibility at Monash University.
