We perform research on the neural mechanisms of cognition and learning. We combine sophisticated behavioral training with a number of state-of-the-art experimental techniques, including multi electrode recordings of spikes and local field potentials, deep-brain stimulation, in vivo neurochemical monitoring, optogenetics, in vivo Calcium Imaging and pharmacological manipulations. Our research focuses on the role of the basal forebrain in attention, learning and memory and brain state regulation. The Analytical Neurochemistry Group is part of the laboratory and is developing techniques for in vivo monitoring and of neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and peptides using Mass Spectrometry. We are part of the Fribourg Center for Cognition, which coordinates Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences between the Medical and Psychology Departments.
