Master in Sport Sciences "Health and Research" option

This Master programme offered jointly by the University of Fribourg and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen (SFISM) enables students to deepen their knowledge of sports science, with an emphasis on topics that are closely linked to health.

This training programme is aimed at people who want to become professionally involved in promoting physical and sporting activities to prevent illness, as well as people who are enthusiastic about scientific research in this field.

Learning to formulate research questions, collect, analyse and present data are important steps on the way to scientific work.

  • Training objectives

    With the successful completion of the MSc in Sports Science Option Health and Research, students have

    • deepen their knowledge of specific topics in the various fields of sports science (such as science of movement and physical education, biomechanics, sports medicine and sports psychology)

    and are able to,

    • critically understand and benefit from the results of scientific research, particularly with regard to health;

    • apply their scientific knowledge in the context of research and promotion of health through exercise;

    • apply the methods and measurement techniques of sports science research and analyse, compare and discuss the data with regard to the current state of scientific knowledge.

  • Structure

    The degree programme in MSc in Sports Science Option Health and Research is divided into three parts:

    • Consolidation: in lectures, seminars and workshops or thematic courses, students deepen the knowledge acquired at Bachelor level.

    • Specialisation: new, specific topics of the respective MSc option are added.

    • Thesis: research project of limited scope, which rounds off the Master programme.
