Mouse Phenotyping Platform
Who we are
The Mouse Phenotyping Platform, launched in 2022, is a core facility part of the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Cardiovascular systems (EMC) at the University of Fribourg. It consists of a state-of-the-art 16-cage mouse metabolic phenotyping system (energy expenditure, movement, feeding and drinking behavior, core body temperature, pair- and yoke-feeding paradigms) where ambient temperature can be modulated (from 4C-35C) and an EchoMRI for live mouse body composition assessment (fat mass, fat free mass, water).
The Mouse Phenotyping Platform is embedded within the group of Dr. Yann Ravussin, an expert in mouse bioenergetics. We are here to help you get knowledge about the scientific possibilities that these machines have to offer as well as support you in the planning and execution of your experiments. This includes the establishment and development of methods, data acquisition, data analysis and any other part related to mouse bioenergetics.
What we do
- Provide access to EchoMRI Whole Body Magnetic Resonance Analyser with training on how to use
- Provide help with experimental design and measurement strategies using the Promethion Metabolic cages (experiments are physically run by a dedicated technician)
- Maintenance, quality check and troubleshooting on all instruments
- Provide all relevant information and reservation calendar on our website
Who can access the core facility?
All research groups from the University of Fribourg and associated Institutes can get access to the facility infrastructure.
Our services are also available to external persons. Interested parties should directly get in touch via email.
Both internal and external groups will be required to pay a pay-per-use fee that can be requested via email and will be dependent on experimental size, complexity, and duration. Please contact us if you have any questions, ideas or particular needs.
