Philosophie antique

The Ancient Philosophy research group at the University of Fribourg has been directed by Béatrice Lienemann since 2023. Our research interests cover all areas of ancient philosophy, with a particular focus on metaphysics, epistemology and the practical philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, the Hellenistic period and Late Antiquity.

A colloquium with guest speakers is organised several times during the semester, on Tuesdays. We also meet weekly for a reading group, based on the interests of our members. In addition to these activities, we also organise regular conferences, which are announced on this page. The group is currently working on a project on 'Definition' in Ancient Philosophy, led by Béatrice Lienemann.
