Ukraine, Russia, and a New Eastern Europe? Rifts and Solidarity in Society, Religion, and Politics

BA/MA-Lecture Series (L37.01013)

Ukraine, Russia, and a New Eastern Europe? Rifts and Solidarity in Society, Religion, and Politics

The Russian attack on Ukraine has changed Eastern Europe in terms of geopolitics, economy, and culture. The speakers in this lecture series—scholars from the University of Fribourg and from abroad—analyse the new situation in wider Eastern Europe emerging out of the ongoing war. The war forced people, institutions and nations to take sides or to explain their neutrality. Both new rifts between old friends and new alliances between old enemies formed a new reality. The lecture series asks: What new alignments and hostilities appeared in Society, Religion, and Politics? Where do we find solidarity and hostility? How can we understand the far-reaching changes in wider Eastern Europe?

Start: 23.2.2023 / Organization: Prof. tit. Ansgar Jödicke
