Research Grants from the University of Fribourg at Post-Doctoral Level

The Unifr scholarships, which are awarded in the context of a postdoctorate, enable postdoctoral researchers whose place of residence is abroad to complete a research stay at Unifr for a maximum of three months.

  • Criteria for the application
    • Completion of a doctoral degree within the last three years at a foreign university recognized by the University of Fribourg (Unifr) at the time of application
    • Residence outside Switzerland
    • Support from a Professor from Unifr
    • Employment or collaboration at a foreign research centre
    • Submission of a research project to be carried out at Unifr
    • Timely submission of the application with all required documents (see list below)
  • Documents to be submitted

    The diplomas and other required documents in the application dossier must be attached as certified copies of the originals and/or must be translated. The authorised languages for the documents or translations are German, English, and French. If the enclosed documents are in another language, only certified translations by a sworn translator will be accepted.

    The application must include the following documents (only online applications will be accepted):

    Administrative documents:

    1. completed application form (must be printed, signed, and uploaded again)
    2. curriculum vitae/resume
    3. letter of support from the professor at the University of Fribourg (Unifr) who will accept the applicant into his/her research group
    4. copy of the doctoral degree obtained within the last three years
    5. confirmation of the foreign research centre in which the candidate is employed or involved
    6. proof of residence
    7. digital ID photo (JPEG format)
    8. copy of passport

    Scientific documents

    1. description of the research project at the University of Fribourg (including a time table)
    2. description of the necessity of the scholarship to carry out the research project and justification of why the research must be carried out at the University of Fribourg
    3. list of publications
  • Application deadlines

    There are two application deadlines every year:

    • 28 February for stays starting after the following 1 September (the application link will be published on 1 October)
    • 30 June for stays starting after the following 1 February (the application link will be published on 1 May)

    Please note: The procedure to obtain a visa usually takes at least three months!
