Information for the Candidates
Researchers from all fields who reside abroad can apply for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship.
Each application must be endorsed by a supervisor. At Unifr, only supervision by a professor is accepted. It is the responsibility of the candidates to find a suitable supervisor at Unifr. The websites of the faculties provide lists of professors and information on their respective research areas.
Admission criteria and application deadlines vary according to the home country (based on the candidate's passport). Further information, a guide to the scholarship application process, and a list of application documents can be found on the FCS website.
During the selection process, applications are evaluated according to the following criteria:
1) Candidate’s profile,
2) Quality of the research project,
3) Synergies and potential for future research cooperation.
If the applicant is awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, the supervisor supports the researcher in academic matters during their stay. The International Relations Office (IRO) is responsible for the administrative support of the scholarship holder. This includes support before, during, and after the stay. At the beginning of the stay, IRO invites all scholarship holders to a welcome event, and during the semester, various socio-cultural activities are organized so scholarship holders can get to know Fribourg and Switzerland and meet their peers.
