Three Types of Scholarships
PhD Scholarship
Candidates with a master's degree or equivalent university qualification can apply for a PhD scholarship. The scholarship is valid for a maximum duration of 36 months with the possibility of extending the status for another 12 months without financial support from FCS. The scholarship is only valid for full-time research in Switzerland, and it is possible to conduct field research abroad upon request.
Please note that applying for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship and registering for a doctorate at Unifr are two separate processes. If you are awarded the scholarship, Unifr will send you a link so you can sign up for the PhD program.
You can find information about doctoral studies at Unifr on the Graduate Campus website.
Please refer to the Guidelines for Scholarship Applicants on the FCS website.
Research Scholarship at the Doctoral Level
Doctoral students registered at a foreign university can apply for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for a research stay as part of their doctoral studies. The duration of the stay is 12 months (no extension possible) and full-time research in Switzerland is required.
Please refer to the Guidelines for Scholarship Applicants on the FCS website.
Research Scholarship at the Post-Doctoral Level
Highly qualified young researchers with a doctoral degree can apply for a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for a post-doctoral research stay. The duration of the stay is 12 months (no extension possible) and full-time research in Switzerland is required.
Please refer to the Guidelines for Scholarship Applicants on the FCS website.
